About the Fund
The Fund has tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
We conducted a one-time fundraising appeal that collected more than $80,000. This allowed the Fund to make more frequent and larger awards than we could from a perpetual endowment.
Our final scholarship winners were selected in 2019. The last renewal awards will be available in the 2022-23 academic year, after which the Fund will wind up operations.
Recognizing and supporting youth
who support their communities
From 2010 through 2019, Brush Memorial Scholarships were awarded annually to graduating Vermont and New Hampshire high school students who demonstrated the same values that Buster did: compassion, hard work, community service, school spirit, leadership, and the desire to challenge themselves.
At least two scholarships were awarded each year, one to a Vermont student and one to a New Hampshire student. Each scholarship recipient received $1,000, and the award was renewable annually for up to four years if the recipient continued to meet the qualifying criteria.
In awarding these scholarships, we honored Buster's memory by cultivating and rewarding active, well-rounded young citizens, much as Buster did.
We have retired the awards program, though renewals to previous winners are available through 2022.
