About the Fund
The Fund has tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, so your gift is tax deductible.
We conducted a one-time fundraising appeal that collected more than $80,000. This will allow the Fund to operate for a 10- to 15-year period, making more frequent and larger awards than we could from a perpetual endowment.
Our final scholarship winners will be selected in 2019. The last renewal awards will be available in the 2022-23 academic year, after which the Fund will wind up operations.
Recognizing and supporting youth
who support their communities
Starting in 2010, Brush Memorial Scholarships have been awarded annually to graduating Vermont and New Hampshire high school students who demonstrate the same values that Buster did: compassion, hard work, community service, school spirit, leadership, and the desire to challenge themselves.
At least two scholarships have been awarded each year, one to a Vermont student and one to a New Hampshire student. Each scholarship recipient receives $1,000, and the award can be renewed annually for up to four years if the recipient continues to meet the qualifying criteria.
In awarding these scholarships, we have honored Buster's memory by cultivating and rewarding active, well-rounded young citizens, much as Buster did.
We will award scholarships one more time in the summer of 2019 before retiring the awards program.
